THE DIALOGUE CONTINUES
(bonus and deleted scenes)

Director notes:

This is an extra scene that was in the original 24 minute version of the film.  Marisol continues to try to show Lydia the importance of staying true to her culture.  But Lydia refuses to listen.

In this scene, Marisol grabs a chancla (slipper) and threatens to give Lydia a pow pow (a beating). In many Latin cultures, the chancla represents a form of disciplining children.

Since Lydia's Latina identity is evolving into someone else, she no longer finds the chancla funny.  It no longer serves as a useful joke in her writing.  She feels the need to run from it.

Director notes:

The muse scene was included in the original 24 minute cut of the film.  Lydia asks the universe for new muses and when the universe answers she receives a visit from a few stock characters and stereotypes.  They each compete for Marisol's spot.  First it's Amanda, the white muse, Tanisha, the ghetto muse, Joy, the college educated African American muse,  and last but not least, a reality TV muse named Boo Boo.  Marisol goes along for the ride, hoping all along that Lydia will see that the grass isn't always greener if you replace your muse.

Director notes:

This scene is in the 24 minute version.  It shows Lydia and Marisol finally having some fun.  We get a glimpse into who they are as a writing team.  Marisol provides the confidence and ideas and Lydia listens and decides what she'll keep and what she'll throw away.

Director notes:

This is a deleted scene.  Not because it wasn't funny, because of structural changes.
